In the Mira Mesa Invitational Wrestling Tournament, one of the big annual tourneys on the calendar,
La Jolla's Isaiah Torres finished fourth place in the 220-pound weight class.

The Vikings' Joshua Jasso reached the quarterfinal round in the 195-pound weight class.

Tanner Shimp, who wrestled at 160 pounds for La Jolla, made it to the consolation final, where he lost to Gustavo Reynoso of St. Augustine by a pin in 1:40.

Torres reached the third place final by beating Jose Pacheco of Mira Mesa by decision, 4-0, after losing the semifinal match to Fernie Reyes of San Pasqual by a pin in 1:55.

Earlier, Isaiah, like his teammate and friend Jasso a veteran member of the La Jolla wrestling program, pinned Luis Flores of Valley Center in 2:06 in the quarterfinals.

Torres lost in the third place final to Aren Cobb of Serra High, who pinned him in 57 seconds.

Jasso (on top) presses chest-to-chest on 195-pound opponent
Isaac Santos of Hilltop to pin him in 3:49
in his first bout of the day.

Jasso pinned Isaac Santos of Hilltop in three minutes, 49 seconds (near the end of the second period) in the second round (after a first-round bye) to gain his way into the quarters at Mira Mesa High.

Jasso was decisioned in his quarterfinal match by another big boy, Diego Zatarain of Calexico.

Head coach Kellen Delaney and his staff led a total of six Viking wrestlers into the tournament, including Buzzy Bomberger (113 pounds), Tahseen Hussain (120), and Keegan Leonard (132).

Bomberger, a freshman whose father is a new assistant coach for La Jolla, made it to the consolation round 4, where he suffered a 9-1 decision to Luca Pasto of Mira Mesa.
