Freshmen Sarah Swendsen and Sadie Dyer and their minions are leading the way for La Jolla's cross country runners to this point in their season.

At the initial Western League "cluster" run at Morley Field Wed., Oct. 3, the younger Viking girls placed second in the junior varsity race. That was the highest finish by a Viking team in the various levels of competition, boys or girls (varsity, JV, and novice).

In the JV race, among 82 finishers, Swendsen finished third, Dyer fifth, Hanna Agardh ninth, and Natalie Courtney 10th. Agardh is a sophomore. The rest are ninth-graders.
