La Jolla surrendered a goal in the ninth minute, losing 1-nil at Point Loma in girls soccer as the El Nino rains held off for a dry but disappointing result for the Vikings Thurs., Jan. 7.

The Vikings are now 0-6 in their second year of playing all games on the road, due to planned or actual work on the Edwards Stadium field. Their game Tues., Jan. 5, was cancelled because, Coach Kristin Jones said, "We heard the Clairemont field was under water."

Senior Natasha Camacho-Bier of Point Loma, ranked second in Division 2, scored on an assist by junior Lily Lutz. It was Camacho-Bier's second goal of the season.

However, Viking goalie Vanessa Shaffer had seven saves in her eight chances, a pretty good record against a talented team.

Defender Sydney Davey controls
the ball on the western sideline
against the Pointers.
