Victor Franklin (left, 138 pounds) has his hand
raised after his pin of Mike Marshall (right)
of Vista in 55 seconds. It was the junior's
first win for La Jolla after moving from
Temecula Valley, where he competed
his freshman and sophomore years.
Victor and his younger brother Oliver
attended Bird Rock Elementary before
their family's move to Temecula.
Senior Patrick Fitzmaurice (top, 157 pounds) works
to control Sage Padillla of Palo Verde Valley
before pinning him in 5:14.
Liam Kressin (top, 150 pounds) works to control
Kai Adams of Helix in his first match. Kressin,
a veteran senior who reached the CIF Masters meet
last year, steadily built a lead through three
takedowns for a dominating 12-6 win by decision.
Noah Pace (top), a senior at 126 pounds, wrestles
Ace Navarro of Vista in his first match. Pace is a
multi-time league champion and reached the CIF
Masters tournament after the Division 4 Finals
last year.
138-pound Victor Franklin receives congratulations
from coaches (from left) Kellen Delaney, head
Joey Stofko, and Ryan Lennard after his pin.
Victor, after a loss in the championship bracket,
recorded three straight falls (pins) in the
consolation bracket. Teammate Maddie Quach
(handling the scorebook and camera) sits on
the floor in front of the coaches.
Pace has gone up in weight
class as he has gotten older
and his body matures,
since his freshman year
at LJHS.
Viking Victor Franklin (standing, back to camera)
has electric stimulation applied to his back at 8:50 a.m.
in the morning. Wrestlers got up at 5 a.m., met
at campus, and drove to Carlsbad all in the
wee hours of the night/morning. Action lasted
well into the evening--truly a "team-bonding"
experience!
Noah Pace shows off some new "kicks" for his senior
year. The outer black sole detaches, so he can wrestle
during matches. Then he pushes the sole back on after
a bout to protect his shoe and walk around outside.
Franklin (right) wears a blanket to ward off the cold
outside the Carlsbad gym at 9:20. His mom also
made the trip to the tournament in North County.
Victory is showing teammate Liam Kressin
the brackets on his phone.
Pace, Kramer, and Fleming wait outside, behind
the main gym on campus, for wrestlers from
the lower weight divisions to be called.
Noah has moved up to 126 pounds this season,
Nathan starts at 106, and Ian (the redhead)
has moved up to 120 from last season.
