Senior Stella Tezcan is a leader of the La Jolla High girls water polo team. Coach Tom Atwell said he is relying on her for leadership of the squad, which added four freshman this winter to its five seniors and several juniors.
This conversation took place during a break in warmups at the edge of the pool, while Stella caught her breath staying in the water, before the Vikings' 12 noon game Sat., Dec. 6, in the Rancho Bernardo Tournament.
Q: How do you see your role?
Stella: I've known these girls for forever, so I'm just working to bring everyone together this year.
Q: What position are you playing at both ends?
ST: I normally play 1-2 (on the left side of the imaginary rectangle facing the goal), but I can play anywhere.
Q: What are ways the team can consolidate and improve? You have five seniors and four freshmen.
I think we have a lot of talent. We have to practice more together and get our chemistry offensively.
