Looking ahead to their week 4 game Fri., Sept. 13, at Rancho Bernardo, the Vike football team (3-0) is still led in scoring by all-purpose athlete Hank Hansen, a senior who has lived for this moment. "HHH", as he calls himself, missed La Jolla's week 3 game yet has 24 points on four touchdowns.
Another phenom, sophomore Andre McLees Walker, owns 18 points on three receiving touchdowns--two in the Vikings' 23-3 win over Madison at home Sept. 6. The stats from the Warhawk win haven't been posted to MaxPreps yet, so Dre's stats may go even higher.
On the other side, at Rancho Bernardo, Coach Eric Weddle, of Charger fame, has his son Gaige playing quarterback as a freshman part-time. Weddle's starter, junior Trey Durham, has completed 24 of 40 passes for 429 yards and five TD's, as the Broncos have gone 3-0 with wins over Poway (13-10), San Pasqual (41-7), and Point Loma (37-17).
The win over Point Loma is a point of comparison for the Vikings, since they will newly face former Defensive Coordinator Ryan Price in an Eastern League match-up this season. While La Jolla has looked impressive, with back-to-back wins over local powers Torrey Pines and Madison, the Pointers are up-and-down, getting walloped in their opener by Del Norte, 20-7, then succumbing to Rancho Bernardo.
