The Viking baseball team exploded for five runs in the fourth inning, and six more two innings later, as La Jolla thumped visiting Mission Bay, 11-0, in the teams' Eastern League opener Wed., April 10.

Shortstop Corey Druse had one of the big hits in the fourth inning, driving in two runs, as the Vikings (now 2-0 in league after a two-game sweep of the Bucs, 12-7 overall) batted around.

Lefty Cole Roberts, like Druse a senior, went the distance on the mound, giving up only three hits, striking out one with three walks. Roberts has now eaten up almost twice as many innings (41) as his nearest teammate, completing the first week of Eastern League play with a 5-1 record, a microscopic 1.35 ERA.

Declan Kelly and Ryan Kestler continue to pound the ball offensively, sporting .366 and .341 batting averages, respectively.

Hank Hansen, at third base, made a stellar grab of a hard-hit grounder right off the line in the top of the fourth. Kestler, holding down first base, picked the low throw to complete the play.
