On Tues., April 9, La Jolla High baseball coach Gary Frank received a phone call from Bill Johnston of the San Diego Padres, informing him that he had been named "Coach of the Week" in high school baseball.

What's more, Frank, in his 21st year as head coach of the Vikings, the 28th at La Jolla overall, will be among the other seven "coaches of the week" on the field prior to the Padres' game June 10, being recognized as part of pregame activities.

On that occasion, according to our La Jolla High baseball source, one of those eight coaches will be honored as the "Coach of the Year" for 2024 and receive $10,000 for his school baseball program.

The "Coach of the Week" award comes with a gift of $1,500 to Viking baseball.

"I'm proud of the recognition," said Howard Frank, statistician/announcer for La Jolla and father of the coach, Wednesday evening, April 10.
