Varsity returners Keegan Leonard and Zeke Pearl, both at 138 pounds, and Buzzy Bomberger, 132, entered the annual Rancho Bernardo Takedown Tournament Sat., Nov. 16, at Rancho Bernardo High.
For the junior varsity, returner Alex Von Mueller, also a 138-pounder, and newcomer Benjamin Kasendorf at 152 pounds entered the fray, the first competition of the winter season.
Leonard is a junior, while Pearl, Bomberger, and Von Mueller are sophomores. Kasendorf just began classes at La Jolla High in the fall as an incoming freshman.
Head Coach Kellen Delaney, back from an out-of-town conference for work that absented him from Wednesday's weight assessment for Viking wrestlers, led a contingent of LJHS coaches to the North County tournament.
They included Mike Bomberger, Kraig Feldman, and Isaac Pumajero.
La Jolla wrestlers have not made the RB tournament a regular trek in past years. The initial competition used to be La Costa Canyon's very big varsity tournament, scheduled for next Sat., Nov. 23.
