Following La Jolla's promising 18-9 loss to crosstown rival Bishop's in the season opener August 23, here is what we knew:
--Diego Solis is a playmaker.
The 5'10" lefty "utilityman" whom Coach Tyler Roach credits with a lot of spark and leadership received passes, ran the ball, and ducked in at key points at the quarterback slot to present a different package to the Knights.
--Max Smith hits hard.
He, Jack Wiese, Dirk Germon, and other Vikings--I know I say this ad nauseaum, so forgive me--met the Bishop's physicality with a physicality of their own. They straightened up quarterback Ty Bucher, Smith jolted one runner back in the direction he came. These were all clean hits, not the intended-to-hurt Christian type that led to collarbone breaks last year.
