Freshman Sebastian Heft, wrestling at 106 pounds for La Jolla High, pinned Donovan Parsons of Patrick Henry in the first period in his first dual meet for the Vikings Wed., Dec. 12, on the San Carlos school's campus.
"He tried to shoot," said Heft right after his winning match to start the meet, pausing at the gym drinking fountain to replace some liquids. "I sprawled (to prevent his opponent from taking him down). I lifted him up, then put him down."
It was all simple language to explain a precision series of moves for the ninth-grader to win a quick six points for La Jolla, a lead which the Vikings only held for a short time.
Later asked to clarify and elaborate on his fall (the technical term for a pin), the fun-loving Heft said, "I did a Superman 360. You do spin around when you do it."
He proceeded to playfully coach victorious teammate Keegan Leonard, a 132-pounder who also won by pin four bouts later, to tell a reporter some made-up name for the move Leonard used to win. It was a light moment in an otherwise tough 55-18 loss for head coach Kellen Delaney's wrestlers at the hands of the host Patriots.
