That's how you pronounce it: BEE-zod. Behzad Hashemi sees his role as running the La Jolla offense, and he says he isn't hesitant to speak up if something is not quite right.
"It's basically my job to run the show," says the junior guard. "Push the ball up the floor, get my teammates involved, quarterback the defense, and knock down shots."
Using the motto "Our mission is transition, brothers", the fleet Viking hangs out with Charlie Gal and Gabe Solis from the team, among others.
"A lot of these guys are like my brothers," he says, "on and off the court. So when it's not game time, I like to joke around a little to make sure morale is high.
"But when we're on the court and things aren't going well, I'm gonna be the first one to call people out."
He's optimistic about the team's outside shooting prospects for the season, including his own.
By the way, as reported last season, Behzad's first name means "noble", "high-born" in Persian (Farsi).
