Less than 24 hours after La Jolla's 21-13 defeat to Central Union in week three, the Spartan stats are available. So I'll dance with who brung me to the dance, so to speak.
Against the Viking defense, Central quarterback Deniro Osuna was 25 for 37 passing for 324 yards, with no touchdowns--which is to La Jolla's credit--and three interceptions--ditto. His quarterback rating on MaxPreps was 76.5, which is somewhat lower. (He had a 114.6 rating in a 34-14 win over Kofa in the season opener.)
Running back Jonathan Medina, the juggernaut on the ground, carried 20 times for 72 yards. He scored three TD's. He seemed bigger than 5'10" in the way he ran around and through the Viking defenders.
Receiver Tyrese Marsh had six catches for 104 yards. Thadeo Campbell added six catches for 84 yards. Jokingly, on the sidelines during the game, I told former Viking quarterback Collin Rugg he should have been named "Tyrese". Chris Macy, a former teammate also at the game, said, "Hmmm. Scott, Mary, and Tyrese. That would be interesting." Later, I added "Necochea" (from Central player Leo Necochea) as a last name. I thought they were cool names.
Campbell, playing both ways, making like the Vikings' Johnathan O'Neal, racked up 12 tackles, nine of those solo. Andres Garcia had nine, with all but one unassisted. Zachary Morquecho recorded eight solo tackles. Kevin Even and Jonathan Jazek had six.
We anxiously await La Jolla's statistics. (Hint, hint.)
