Ben Wintringer, former utility player for Coach Gary Frank's baseball team at La Jolla High and a 2016 graduate, is a freshman member of the Whitworth College baseball team this season.
The player's profile for the university in Washington state includes the information that the multi-position Wintringer led the Western League in batting average at .483 during his prep baseball career. He also served as team captain his senior campaign.
Wintringer, wearing number 44, names Tony Gwynn as a hero. He is listed at 5'10", 161 pounds.
His parents are Mike and Sarahbeth Wintringer. His brother O'ee (pronounced OH-ee; nickname for Oliver, according to Sarahbeth), is a sophomore at La Jolla High who plays for the varsity lacrosse team. The Viking lax'ers opened their 2017 season with a 7-1 shellacking of visiting St. Augustine Fri., March 3.
