LJ wrestling: Down to the last two matches

By Ed Piper

La Jolla's dual meet with Point Loma's wrestling team came down to the last two matches. Joshua Jasso, the Vikings' 195-pounder, won a 3-0 decision over the Pointers' Randy Kenolio to give Coach Kellen Delaney's squad a narrow lead, 28-27.

Then Isaiah Torres, at 222 pounds, with his parents watching on Senior Night, prevailed 4-0 over Louis Daniels to clinch a 31-27 team victory in the Big Gym Wed., Jan. 16.

On the way to the Vikings' closest win this season, Faress Zwain at 153 defeated Point Loma's Nelson Poole in overtime. Then Tanner Shimp (161) pinned Thor Willink. After a loss, that set up La Jolla's comeback from a 27-25 deficit via Jasso's and Torres' triumphs at the end.
