LJ b soccer: By the skin of their teeth

By Ed Piper

La Jolla assistant coach Victor Zendejas was informed his team was ranked 11th in the MaxPreps Power Rankings for boys soccer (at this writing Feb. 12 in the a.m.).

"We have to be in the top 12," the coach said, as he fielded multiple calls on a weekend after missing the Vikings' 3-2 home loss to Crawford Fri., Feb. 10.

In the Division 2 playoff bracket, the top dozen teams will be placed in seeding meetings Sat., Feb. 17. The Vikings (2-3-2 in the Eastern League, 6-6-4 overall), winning two games a week ago, are cutting it pretty close, with this week the final week in the regular season.

"We've had goalie problems," said Zendejas a week ago. Kevin Mojica, who has a little more seasoning but who is normally a player in the field, is back in goal for La Jolla.
