Kyra Fisk, the La Jolla High freshman who just likes to run, continued her success at long distance to cover 3200 meters in 12:24.49a and 1600 meters in 5:55.24a, both for first place, at the recent Red/Black Meet at La Jolla High.
"Oldtimer" Lilly Grunski, now finishing her senior year as a Viking in the nearly-post-COVID era, flew 17 feet, 6 inches in the long jump to outdistance her nearest competitor by over three feet in the meet held Mon., March 22.
On the boys side, in the 1600 meters, Viking teammates Matthew Nunes, Elijah Vaz, and Isaac Chu finished 1-2-3 to virtually sweep the field in the neighborly rivalry meet against the Knights. The trio finished within two and half seconds of one another: 4:51.62a, 4:53.74a, and just behind Vaz, Chu in 4:53.92a.
In LJHS head coach Paul Byrne's long-time favorite event, Viking Jack Evans, another senior, pole-vaulted 11 feet to surpass three teammates' marks.
Eugenia Kritsuk, like Grunski completing four years as a La Jolla track performer, garnered a first place in the 100-meter hurdles at 17.99 seconds, and second place in two other events: 59.77 seconds in the 300-meter hurdles and 14 feet, 5.5 inches in the women's long jump behind Grunski.
Daphne Mayer, who trailed only Kyra Fisk in multiple cross country meets earlier this year for La Jolla, doubled for two second-places in the 800 meters (2:47.02) and 1600 meters (6:00.12).
