La Jolla's baseball team defeated Maranatha Christian, 8-6, Thurs., April 1--not an April Fool's Day joke--to win the Division 5 title in the annual Lions Tournament and pitching/hitting star Gavin Graff was named MVP.
The 6'4", 185-pound Graff pitched a complete game victory on the first day of the prestigious tourney, Mon., March 29, scattering seven hits and striking out nine. The senior ace only walked one batter.
At the plate, Gavin went 6 for 12 with 7 RBI's.
The Vikings also won their division's title in the multi-division Lions tournament in 1950 and 2000.
