Sixth-ranked St. Augustine hit its first several shots to sprint out to a 25-5 lead, and blew out a frustrated Helix squad, 88-54, in the two teams' season opener in the San Diego Tip-off Challenge at Montgomery High Thurs., Nov. 15.
Luke Haupt, a natural lefty guard, scored with both hands, inside and outside, in between the contributions of 6'6" junior star Chibuzo Agbo on a trio of baskets to stymie the Highlanders' big man, Maurice Holmes, and his mates, with the first-quarter streak.
The 6'5" junior Haupt, the son of Saints coach Mike Haupt, finished with 30 points. Agbo followed him with 27.
Holmes led Coach John Singer's team with 27.
