Point Loma Nazarene University has a "team camp" that is an annual event which La Jolla's basketball team participates in.
"It was the first time the team has done anything since the season, so we were a little rusty," said returning forward Evan Brown of the Vikings' play Fri.-Sat., June 8-9, in the PLNU event.
Coach Paul Baranowski's squad features returning starters Nick Hulquist and Behzad Hashemi, besides fellow guard Jacob Duffy and forward Otto Lenz, the latter who was out injured a large chunk of last season.
Double-dipping concurrently with 7-on-7 passing football events this summer, besides Brown, are brothers Gabe and Diego Solis, both in the back court, and Langston Aron, a forward. Gabe Solis, Aron, Hulquist, Hashemi, Duffy, and Lenz are all rising seniors, while Diego Solis is a rising sophomore.
Brown said La Jolla also put some newcomers on the floor at Point Loma: rising sophomore Harry Kaseff, as well as rising freshmen Max Raulston and Cole Duffy.
The Vikings played a total of four games in the team camp Friday and Saturday.
Looking ahead, La Jolla plays in the Grossmont summer tournament Fri., June 15, at 6 p.m., then on Sat., June 16, games are scheduled for 12 noon and 3 p.m. Sun., June 17, Baranowski's brood doubles up with games at 12 noon and 2 p.m.
