Junior co-captain Katy Koenig scored the go-ahead goal with 42 seconds left in the first of two overtime periods in La Jolla's 7-6 league win over Bishop's at Coggan Pool Tues., Jan. 16. (In water polo, both overtimes have to be played, even when one team takes the lead in the first overtime.)
EP: Tight one. Great finish. You got the winning goal in the first overtime. How'd you guys do it?
KK: We just kept pushing all the way to the end. We didn't stop. We were just the stronger team.
EP: Kiley (McClure) was playing some defense in there, very physical. She contributed a lot (including two goals). Comment on that.
KK: Kiley stepped up. We had three starters (including Jensine Bugelli, out with a concussion and broken nose) out of the game. Kiley stepped up and played a great game.
EP: Having three starters out, what were you guys thinking going into the game?
KK: We have 17 people on our team who are able and willing to play, and they stepped up.
