Diego Solis - freshman guard - interview after La Jolla's game at St. Augustine Fri., Jan. 12, 2018
EP: You guys (you and your older brother Gabe, a junior guard) are in practice together...
DS: It keeps a good relationship between me and my brother, and we go to practice, drive his car everyday. And yeah, I love it.
EP: There's nothing like that... In your first year (at La Jolla High), what are some things you're working on?
DS: I'm working on my ball-handling, and shooting off the dribble and off the catch. That's mainly what I'm working on.
EP: One thing these guys, the Saints (ranked in the top 10), do is, they're quick. So you guys had to keep the ball moving. It wasn't like playing a mediocre team. If you hold the ball for a second, they're going to double-team you.
DS: They guard the ball well. They force errors. It was hard to get open shots. They're a well-coached team.
EP: (Teammate) Langston (Aron, a 6'2" forward)--he's shown some aggressiveness. What do you see?
DS: Langston is a great player. He brings a lot of energy to our team. He will get a board. He's a good spark.
EP: Otto Lenz (another 6'2" forward). He played a few minutes tonight. He's been able to play a couple of times (after an injury). He's getting better. It's kind of neat to see him out there, isn't it?
DS: Yeah, he's a good shooter. Once he gets a little faster and heals more, he'll be good to go.
EP: One more question and I'll let you go. You have pizza to eat. (Diego chuckles.) You got the weekend off, you guys go home and regroup. Do you reset to stay fresh like you were when you upset Cathedral Catholic (54-47 Jan. 9)?
DS: We go to practice ready. I shoot in the backyard with my brother a lot. You just gotta stay focused.
