La Jolla's baseball team (4-6) faces three games Mon.-Tues.-Wed., April 3-4-5, scheduled for the annual Lions Tournament. Only the first is a home game. Lefthander Cole Roberts is slated to start that game, according to Viking coach Gary Frank.
The Lions Tourney "is the biggest high school tournament in the country (140 schools this year)," according to Frank, who also has a long history with the tourney.
"The tourney has been around for more than seven decades, and as far as I know, La Jolla has been in it every year."
Another Viking connection to the competition is that La Jolla has won it three times--1950, 200, and 2021.
"The tourney director asked us if we would move up a division this year," said Frank, due to the drop-down of another team in that division. That means Division 5A.
