Viking Ella Roman (green shirt) got her hand in
the big night by pinning her opponent in one minute,
42.9 seconds in an exhibition match.

San Diego High was rocking, with (mostly underclassmen) students loudly cheering on their
female and male wrestlers in Wednesday's (Jan. 11) dual meet against visiting La Jolla. Students weren't sheepish about their Cavers, whistling, hooting, literally raising the roof in a sonic display that surprised one for the vast size of the main gym on their campus.
But the Viking juggernaut wouldn't give them anywhere to hide.
When the experienced La Jolla craftsmen got going--after a forfeit to Noah Pace (110 pounds) and decision by Liam Kressin (113), 9-5, then another forfeit accepted by Nerva Mugisha (120)--it was like a machine:
--Abraham Sierra (132) pinned Sydney Nye (SDHS) in 46.5 seconds.
--Jax Espinosa (138), taking time out from water polo, beat Madelyn Bayona by fall in 45.9.
--After Caden Kestler (145) won by forfeit, the methodical Charlie Long (152) beat Alejandro Hernandez with his own pin in 51.6 seconds of the first period.
--Gustav Rinaldi (160) victimized Adrian Garcia with a pin in 3:18 (midway through the second period).
--Jack Long (170), Charlie's younger brother, made Chui Dominguez succumb to a pin in period two.
By then, after the string of five pins in six bouts by some of La Jolla's masters, the visitors led 51-6.
The growing "Colussus" known as the LJ wrestling
team was rockin' and rollin' in cheering on
their teammates in the dominating 57-24 win
at SDHS Wed., Jan. 11.
The Vikings lead the Eastern League with a spotless, undefeated record (4-0). There is one dual meet remaining, at home Jan. 18 against Canyon Hills.
