There was a smile on everyone's face during the fundraiser/special event for October defeat-cancer month. It was so funny to see the Viking football players, who normally inhabit the gridiron, trying to cover unfamiliar territory as a team in Coggan Pool against one of San Diego County's top boys water polo teams, the Viking boys varsity.
The football players received 7 points per goal, the water polo team one point. So water polo actually outscored football 21-7 in four quarters. But the footballers used two (near the end, three) goalies, and the fun and excitement were palpable as regulation ended knotted 21-21. Tom Atwell's water polo squad finally prevailed on penalty shots, 23-22.
