La Jolla High's baseball team, after suffering three straight losses to Christian High the week of May 10, delivered a death knell to host High Tech High on their damp field in Clairemont Mon., May 17, behind senior ace Gavin Graff's 7-0 dominant performance on the mound.
The righthander Graff, the MVP of the GMC Tournament earlier in the COVID-affected 2021 season, ran his record to 6-2 as Head Coach Gary Frank's squad won their first game in league play and extended their season's record to 16-6.
After some early denials, the Vikings broke through against the Storm with two runs in the top of the third behind RBI base hits by second baseman Jake Klimkiewicz and shortstop Simon Baker. The rest flowed from there.

LJHS's Connor Hobbs (iu red jersey) gets back
to first base ahead of the catcher's throw
in top of third inning.
Hobbs is thrown out trying to steal second base
after leading off with a walk in the top
of the first inning.
As Coach Gary Frank (left) lies down in coaching box
to impress on runner Luke Roberts to slide,
Roberts is thrown out at third base by a mile
trying to advance from first on a single by
Graff in the top of the first inning.
Luke Roberts, starting in left field,
swings in top of the first. He was
hitting in the second slot in the order.
