La Jolla led seventh-ranked St. Augustine by 12 with 4:59 to play, a large home crowd hooting in support and the Viking band striking up encouraging rhythms.

The red-and-black faithful were hoping for a repeat of their team's upset of the tall trees of Cathedral Catholic Jan. 9 in the LJHS gym.

But it wasn't to be, as Saints sophomore Chibuzo Agbo powered his team to a 61-58 comeback win Fri., Feb. 2.

Viking senior Jacob Ohara played the game of his life, repeatedly victimizing St. Augustine for transition layups before defenders could get back. The guard, who was named the MVP of the Hilltop Invitational to start the season for this very reason, finished with 20 points.

Charlie Gal, La Jolla's senior big man, led his team with 23 points in an aggressive effort against the 6'6" Agbo.

The Vikings, obviously aroused before the supportive student section, jumped out to a 10-2 lead on three layups by Ohara and inside baskets by Gal and junior Nick Hulquist, the latter after a steal.

The hosts led 14-10 at the end of the first quarter, and were only down by one at halftime, 23-22, as the talented Saints (6-2 in the Western League, 13-5 overall) fought back.

It was, by far, the best performance the up-and-down La Jollans (3-6 in league, 10-12 overall) have put together this season.
